Doran Schmaal, a lecturer in interior design at the College of Wood and Furniture: HMC MBO Vakschool (The Netherlands) presents the class 'Humour in Dutch Design from 90's until now', under the ERASMUS+ international mobility programme.
Humor has had a prominent place in Dutch design and culture. Even though humor is hard to explain and really depending on taste, it has proven to be an effective conceptual tool for Dutch designers. In this lecture we zoom in on design from the nineties on. Looking at examples from Droog Design, Maarten Baas, Tejo Remy and others and try to see to what extend humor could still be a tool for contemporary design.
– Doran Schmaal
As well as teaching, Doran was also the founder and curator of Schmall Gallery in Amsterdam.
The open lecture will take place on 18 October at 9:30 in the ESAD auditorium.
