Mónica Yoldi, a graphic design teacher in Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño de La Rioja (Logroño, Spain), was in Portugal under the ERASMUS+ programme mobility programme, for a lecture and workshop on Contemporary Spanish Comic.

Nowadays graphic novel and humour comics are living a sweet moment with the work of Paco Roca, Juanjo Sáez or Mauro Entrialgo, among others. Through the analysis of the work of certain contemporary comic authors it is possible to approach the discipline and, with a practical exercise, and get into the topic.

During the first part of the workshop students have a tour through the history of Spanish comics and work of the main national graphic novel authors analysed in depth. In the second part of the workshop students have drawing exercises in order to obtain material that can set up a short cartoon.

Mónica Yoldi has a PhD in Art from the University of Barcelona and a Degree in Humanities from the University of La Rioja. She published various articles on art and design in journals. As an artist, she has shown her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Since 2001, she teaches graphic design and new technologies as part of the training of future graphic designers.
