The students of ESAD's Interior Design degree were challenged to develop an installation project that should integrate the recently converted spaces of Conservas Pinhais, in Matosinhos, marking the celebration of the company's hundredth anniversary and the opening of the Industry Living Museum.
The team - composed by the students Beatriz Gapo, Catarina Tavares, Diana Silva, Inês Alves and Inês Moreira, with the coordination of the teacher João Cruz - started from the motto launched by ESAD in this academic year - Looking at common things with uncommon eyes, by Vico Magistretti - to design, as an extracurricular project, three installation solutions for three distinct places of the Vivo da Indústria Museum:
. Roda Viva, a kinetic installation for the space of the Memory Workshop, which explores, through light, shadow and movement, the parabola of the ceaseless cycle of circular and in-line cannery production;
. Pride, a tribute to the women of Pinhais projected for the large arch of the Warehouse, using the symbolic silhouette of the sardine to project a composition of images of the company's employees;
. You have a lot of cans!, an installation and, simultaneously, a piece of support equipment for the Reception area, characterized by 7 modules, with different seating arrangements, partially covered by can lids, forming a particular pattern under the blue Pinhais background.
Since 1920, Conservas Pinhais is specialized in the production of 100% handmade premium preserves, in a handmade process, representing a highly relevant icon of the city of Matosinhos and an irreplaceable part of Portugal's historical heritage.
The preliminary proposal developed by the students is presented to Pinhais, in the classroom, on December 16, at 9:30.
