An exhibition about the relation between the object, the body and the space. A space untied of the functions, of the usage and of the conventional ways of living. A performantive space that activates reflection processes, spontaneous appropriation processes. Unreal, dreamlike and immaterial, a space punctuated by disturbing objects, while abnormal and unrecognizable or, on the contrary, comforting in their ability to feed on either collective or individual memory. A space as pure expression, as pure communication, that allows the invasion by unknown bodies, as a sea of sand, and that is immaterialized by a lycra canvas that hides its contours, making them undefined, ethereal and surprising. The proposed space by the curators Volker Albus and Renate Goldmann is an open space to interpretations, interventions, experiences, memories, absences. It is a space that permits itself to be gutted, crossed, contaminated and also… inhabited.
Maria Milano, 2014

25 artists present on the exhibition COME-IN: Interior Design as a Means of Contemporaneous Art in Germany, isolated objects, sculptures, installations and videos and propose a reflection on the connections between art and interior design and the role of the furniture piece on contemporary artistic discourse.

Several of these artists produced works specially for the exhibition COME-IN, that focus on two kinds of objects: the ones about the personal and collective memory in the tradition of sculpture and/or installation art; and the ones that assume a definitive form only by their communicative functioning, which is their practical function.

The opening of the exposition is at Fábrica de Santo Thyrso on 7th November, at 21h30, by de Mayor of the Municipal Council of Santo Tirso, Joaquim Couto, by the director of ESAD – Escola Superior de Arte e Design de Matosinhos, José Simões, and by the director of the Goethe-Institut Porto, Elisabeth Völpel. It will be open until 14th December 2014.

COME-IN, travelling since 2010, is an exhibition promoted by IFA – Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations Stuttgart, in collaboration with Goethe-Institut. Is now presented at Fábrica de Santo Thyrso, with the support of the Municipal Council of Santo Tirso and ESAD – Escola Superior de Artes e Design de Matosinhos, curated by Volker Albus and Renate Goldmann, with national coordination by Maria Milano, director of the Interior Design MA of ESAD.

The Portuguese stage of this exhibition is marked by the installation of a set of furniture pieces devoted to the forgetfulness, decontextualized of their primary usage and reinterpreted by the students in the 1st grade of the Interior Design MA 2012/2013, within the workshop Remade Furniture Santo Thyrso, oriented by the architect and designer Paolo Deganello.
