This direct collaboration with the industry played a relevant pedagogical role for the students, who deepened their knowledge about the specialised production methods and product design services.

Founded in 2017, Mesa Ceramics is a Portuguese company dedicated to the manufacture and design of high quality products. Mesa Ceramics has an excellent knowledge of ceramic craftsmanship, combined with the best natural resources and the latest technologies available in the market.

The MA in Product Design students visited the company on the 3rd October, where they worked directly with the technical and marketing departments to learn about the ceramic products manufacturing process.

Mesa Ceramics suggested two new types of products required by their clients and set the challenge for the students: explore various catering scenarios and design new products that incorporate their technologies and brand values. With this experience, students proceeded to research, explore and develop new product ideas and concepts. The final results were evaluated by the company and the students received commercial and technical feedback on how they could improve their designs.
