In a partnership between ESAD and the National Press Museum, Cau Gomez presents the conference Ris(c)os, Illustration and Caricature in Debate with the Brazilian Artist, where he will discuss his 30 years of his career, putting cartoon and democracy versus censorship into perspective.

Cau Gomez is an award-winning Brazilian visual artist, illustrator and caricaturist, born in Minas Gerais and living in Bahia. At the age of 15 he began working in the press as a professional illustrator in the newspaper Diário de Minas. Since then, he has spent 30 years working in graphic humor and the visual arts and has won dozens of awards. In 2002 he was honored with the Cartoon World Festival Grand Prix and the 2016 edition with the 1st place of the Special Caricature Prize on Charlie Chaplin. He has published cartoons, editorial illustrations and cartoons in major Brazilian newspapers such as O Estado de S. Paulo and A Tarde and in renowned magazines such as Playboy and Gráfica Magazine, among other publications. He is collaborator in the French magazines Courrier International and Le Monde Diplomatique Brazil and illustrator of several books and albums.

Cau Gomez is in Portugal for an artistic residency in the Wolinski House, of the National Press Museum, within the In Residence Programme, from Porto City Hall.

The conference is part of a broader program, involving a workshop on Cartoon / Cartoon Techniques - Scale, Colors and Style, ending with a final presentation of the work done by ESAD students.
