Jeremy Aston, Luciana Barbosa and Ana Duque, ESAD lecturers and researchers from esad-idea (ESAD's Design and Art Research Unit), took part in the workshop Biomimicry 101 - Designing for a Sustainable Future, at the Escuela Superior de Arte y Diseño de Andalucía, in Granada (Spain), with the support of the Erasmus+ programme.
The workshop explored biomimicry, which means "imitation of what is alive", with the aim of identifying innovative solutions adopted by nature and translating the principles to human needs. The biomimetic approach aims to favor "choices" tested by nature itself.
Composed of several learning modules to introduce biomimicry, observe its functions and identify potential applications, this workshop was an immersive learning experience, through collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and identification of nature's best strategies, processes and mechanisms.
