Class with andré da loba

During the academic year of 2014/2015 the prestigious and awarded illustrator André da Loba is carrying out a project of editorial illustrating, resulting from the Post-graduate course in Illustration and Digital Animation of ESAD.

The project, Capas para a New Yorker (Covers for New Yorker), combines works of the students Sara Lavadinho, Jane Carijó, Francica César de Sá, Carlos Santos, Ana Melo, Ana Dias, Ana Rocha, Catarina Leal, Inês Rigor, Pedro Codeço and João Oliveira.

André da Loba is a reluctant artist and poet. He studied in Aveiro and New York, where he graduated in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts. In just a few years the Society of Illustrators of New York recognized his work, as well as the American Illustration, the Book Fair in Bologna and the Ilustrarte. He has also been distinguished by the magazines 3x3, CMYK or Lurzer’s Archive, by which he was selected as one of the 200 best illustrators in the world in 2010. He collaborates frequently with New York Times and Times Magazine, among other publications.

With paperboard sculptures or bi-dimensional illustrations, André da Loba has signed 15 children’s books in Portugal, Spain, Italy and Brazil, making the difference with his minimalistic style, using the color and the stylization of geometries and forms of simple outlines. He teaches and gives workshops and conferences in several places, like ISEC in Lisbon and Parsons School of Design in New York.
