The exhibition and debate Arquitectura Revista, within the programme of the project O Lugar do Discurso, are another contribute to the approach to the intersections between architecture, graphic design and visual culture, analysing the importance of the architecture magazines in the history of Portuguese Design.

The presentation of the exhibition and the debate in the Mercado Municipal Gallery will take place on Fabruary 26th at 18h. The debate on the subject The Portuguese Architecture Magazines Discussed by Graphic Design Perspective counts on the presence of José Bártolo, Vítor Alves, Ana Vaz Milheiro, Eduardo Côrte-Real and Jorge Silva.

The exhibition is curated by Vítor Alves, architect developing a PhD project in this area, and José Bártolo, director of investigation at ESAD IDEA – Investigation in Art and Design, working at the Design Incubator at Mercado de Matosinhos.

O Lugar do Discurso is an investigation project financed by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (2013-2015), developed within an institutional partnership between the Instituto de História da Arte (FCSH-INL) and the DINAMIA’CET/ISCTE, with coordination of Rute Figueiredo and an investigators and research fellows team, with two debate cycles.

The first cycle, Temas/Capa, reflects on the way that architecture magazines of the last century have contributed to the discipline’s discourse. The second cycle, Agentes, evokes the connections that architects, editors, critics and designers established, how they have occupied their influence areas and how they have exchanged knowledge.

Besides the place of a disciplinary discourse, the periodic publications of architecture are a privileged documental corpus for the analysis and reflection on the ways of visual representation: from the centrality of drawing, to the use of engraving or photographs, and to representative experiences through illustration or collage.
