
Ângela Carvalho, designer and mentor in creativity and innovation, gives an open class on social design put into practice, within the project O Bairro está IN(clusivo) - part of the Programa Nacional Bairros Saudáveis.
Ângela Carvalho works on projects that combine concepts of design with human, social and environmental development, through her vision of the designer's role as an agent of social and environmental transformation. She works mainly in the fields of product, corporate image and strategic design. In partnership with the German designer Alex Neumeister, she founded NCS Design, a studio known by pioneering and innovative design projects.
The project O Bairro está IN(clusivo) goal is to bring together three realities: the inhabitants of Cruz de Pau Neighbourhood (Matosinhos), the 8th grade students of Matosinhos Secondary School and ESAD’s students of the MA in Interior Design. Their collaboration in a set of actions aims to contribute to a better society through design and architecture. The application to the National Healthy Neighbourhoods Programme was submitted by esad-idea, Research in Design and Art, the research centre of ESAD, in partnership with MatosinhosHabit, the body responsible for managing the housing stock of the Matosinhos City Council, the Matosinhos Local Health Unit, the Matosinhos Basic School, the Cruz de Pau Residents' Association and CIAP - Centre for Encouraging Sharing.
