The workshop Roda: create, repair and re-wear emerges as a response to the problematic of strategies for a circular economy, the urgency to take advantage of materials and used garments, as well as the need to increase their life cycle by caring for them, repairing them and giving them a new purpose.
In this sense, ESAD has developed an atelier space where techniques of upcycling, recycling and mending of garments that are no longer wanted are taught. As an open space for creation, the aim is to promote "know-how" techniques and to value all existing resources.
To make this project possible, ESAD is organising a clothing and accessory collection. The project is open to all the elements of ESAD (students, teachers and collaborators). The transformed pieces can be from the participants themselves, from people close to them or from a collection for sale. In parallel, conversations will be promoted about ways to maintain the quality of the clothing, the performance of the materials (washing, removing the pilling, etc.), sharing consumption habits and sustainable practices.
At the end of the school year, the developed projects will be exhibited, with the purposes and values of the initiative. Together, guidelines for the pieces will be outlined, in order to create a cohesive collection. All pieces will be signed by their authors and will be guaranteed by 'A RODA.
