2nd Face is a workshop on how to code social identity in head mounted products, taking into account the phenomenon of air pollution in modern cities, within the scope of Product Design Practices module in the MA in Product Design.
The low air quality caused by the global increase in industrial emissions and automotive ownership has had a severe impact on the quality of life in modern urban centers. The air purifying products that can be used are a response that citizens have adopted, making them a part of everyday life.
Head-mounted protection products are a highly functional, performance-oriented category acting as a barrier to injury to the face, head, and respiratory tract. However, the human face is central to expressing the individuality of users, making the head an essential concern for the formation of identity. The performance product is static, yet the human face is dynamic, constantly expressing a user's emotional reactions.
The main purpose of this workshop is to apply shapes coding strategies for the harness product category, through the study of wearable products, as well as air protection and safety in industrial, sports or fashion products. Through Meaning-Based Design, we intend to explore the merge point of functionality, driven by performance and identity expression.
